Week 4: Using the ASSURE Model of Lesson Planning

The task was to complete a VARK Questionnaire.

VARK = Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic Learning Styles

We had to complete a VARK Questionnaire from a link on Ms. Roberts Blog. Multi modal

Learning: means that persons/students can learn by any learning style. A Assure model is used to create a lesson plan in technology.

The challenges I faced while completing the task are:
1. Writing an Objectives in class.
2. I got confused of the condition and degree in an objective.

I overcame the challenges by :
1. In writing the objective the teacher went back over steps in writing and objectives and I also got some help from one of my classmate.
2. The teacher had some examples of objective and with the state objectives highlighted in specific colours.

I learnt how to:
1. Write objectives for my Assure Model Lesson Plan with the ensuring the main state of objectives ABCD.
Sample draft used as a class activities Assure Model Lesson Plan
I will ensure that I have my Lesson Plan with my objectives so that I can have a plan and be prepared when I am teaching my students.

The ASSURE Model has 6 Components
1.Analyse Learners
2.State objectives
3.Select appropriate media & materials
4.Utilize media and materials require for learners
5.Require learners participation
6.Evaluing & Revise the learners

Examples guide to Analyse learners:
1.Number of Students
2.Number of Male & Females
3.Age Range
4.Mental, Social, Physical and Social notes such as:
  • Disabilities
  • Learning Difference
  • Cultural/Ethnic Notes etc.

5. Current knowledge, Prerequisites a learner Attitude Learning Style
  • Estimate % of students
  • Visual
  • Auditors
  • Kinesthetics

Steps in Writing a Learning Objective:

Step 1: Start with a stem sentence.
·         After completing this module, Students will be able to ….

Step 2: Determine your Learning outcome.
Step 3:  Consult the Bloom wheel.

Step 4: Write verb and learning outcome into a statement when combine the stem in a form of complete sentence.

State Of Objectives:

  •           Action/Audience(Students)
  •           Behavior(Action)
  •           Condition (How you would like your students to perform the task)
  •           Degree ( How much to do, How many participants)

Three Learning Domain Objectives:
  • K-Knowledge (Cognitive)
  • S-Skill (Psychomotor)
  • A-Attitude (Affective)

                                  Bloom Taxonomy Wheel

Conclusion: In the Fourth Week of Education Technology class I learnt how to write and plan a Lesson Plan by writing objective ensuring all the main state objective ABCD's are included.
